Springville First United Methodist Church comforts grieving families in several ways including providing a luncheon after funeral services.  Since 1999 we have also offered the Columbarium and Memorial Garden where ashes of loved ones may be inurned.  A Path of Remembrance leads from the church to the Memorial Garden.

Our Religious Tradition:

From earliest times, people have been concerned about their final earthly resting place, especially that it be near the gathering place of their families so that each may be held in lasting, loving remembrance.

In Christian times, preferred burial space was within the church itself where the faithful gathered for a memorial service.

When space within the church was no longer available, the churchyard cemetery developed.  Only in recent times have burial grounds far removed from community centers of life and prayer, been used.

Both in ancient and in Christian times the dual tradition of burial and of cremation was preserved.

More recently, consideration of the spiritual and the practical aspects of cremation and inurnment within the church itself has led to a revival of this aspect of the tradition. 

Niches in the Columbarium may be reserved, by advance commitment, singly or for family groups.  The purchaser receives a Certificate of Ownership which indicates a choice of niche. This Certificate entitles a person an assurance of perpetual care.  Funeral and/or memorial services may be held in the Columbarium area according to local and church regulations. 

The Columbarium is located in the Memorial Garden.  The Niches are containers arranged around the central form of a cross.

The Path of Remembrance leads from the church to the Memorial Garden.

Remembering special or significant people in our lives is always a challenge.  We search for ways to honor them for their influence, support, love and sacrifices made on our behalf.

How do we do this?

Putting their names on a brick or paver in our path of remembrance is a tribute that will last forever.

This tribute will be seen by many for generations to come and serve as an inspiration to others who wish to remember loved ones.

Granite Pavers are 12" x 12" square.  Your name, the name of a loved one, or anyone you wish to honor, can be engraved onthe paver and will be a permanent recognition of a loved one and a support to your church. Up to three lines can be engraved and a choice of four artworks are available. 

Bricks are also part of the Path of Remembrance and are 6" x 9" with engraving of up to three lines of text available. 

Donations to cover the cost of producing and installing  the granite pavers or bricks should be discussed with the Path of Remembrance committee.  Contact the church office for information.
