Frequently Asked Questions
If you have a question not answered here, please call the church office or email, firstname.lastname@example.org
What time is worship on Sunday?
Worship times are at 8:30 AM and 11:00 AM. Several times a year the whole congregation will unite in worship at 11:00am in the sanctuary or at another time and place as announced.
How do I reserve the church for a function?
A request form needs to be filled out which can be obtained from the church office (716-592-7451). You will be advised at that time of costs, restrictions, expectations and availability. Currently, Lois Scharf-Newman handles scheduling, and the church office will put you in touch with her.
What is the deadline for the church newsletter “First Fruits”?
Usually the Monday prior to the 20th of each month. The December and January newsletters are combined into one, so the deadline for Dec-Jan is around November 20.
Who is responsible for locking the building?
The lead individual of each group using the facility must take responsibility for seeing that all the doors of the building are locked and windows secured at the group’s departure. If another group is in the building when you leave, take time to advise them that they are responsible for securing the building. The last person in the church should check all entries for security. Since many groups use the facility, it is imperative that the lead individual of each group take responsibility at departure time.
How does the prayer chain work?
To initiate the prayer chains, call the church office which will advise all the lead prayer chain individuals. This will effectively set up a prayer link and opportunity for “two or three” to gather in God’s name regarding any given request. Also, prayer cards are available in the pews to indicate what prayer needs you might have.
When is the church library open?
The Library is open any time the church building is open. Library staff are on hand to help you in your selections on Sunday mornings. Anyone is welcome to use the Library and can check out books, videos and other materials by signing them out on the cards provided.
Who painted the nursery mural and Sunday School walls?
The artistic talent of a number of individuals is evident as you step into the nursery or the Sunday School rooms. In the nursery the young ones are surrounded by four walls of brightly colored, hand-painted depictions of Noah’s call for the animals to come two by two into the ark. In the hallway leading to the Sunday School rooms are pictures of the children, “red and yellow, black and white” who are precious in God’s sight, ready, willing, and excited about learning God’s word. This painting was done by Carolyn Johnson, Pam Holley, Gaby Dahl and others.
How can I make a monetary memorial gift to the church? How can I honor a loved one?
Memorial envelopes are available for monetary memorial donations that you would like to make to the church. Once the memorial has been received, a card of acknowledgement is sent to the individual’s family.
While gifts can be made to Springville First United Methodist Church at any time, several special opportunities are available. In the east side yard of the church is the brick “Pathway of Remembrance“. The names of people in our lives can be remembered by placing their names permanently on a brick, thus memorializing their influence, support, love and sacrifices. This tribute will be seen by many for generations to come and will serve as an inspiration to others who wish to remember loved ones. The Pathway of Remembrance leads to the Columbarium and Memorial Garden in which there are niches to bury the cremated remains of members once their life on this earth is done and life in eternity begins. To learn more about either of these ways to honor or memorialize a loved one, contact the church office at (716)592-7451.
How can I get flowers placed on the altar?
If you would like to donate flowers or have a special occasion you want remembered (birthday, anniversary, etc.), please call or email the church office. You will be put in touch with the individuals responsible for the altar decorations and offered an opportunity to place an expression of remembrance in the weekly church bulletin.
Is the church handicapped-accessible?
Yes. The new ground-level entry on the north side of the building makes entry into the church simpler for those with special needs. To be protected from the weather, drive up under the canopy, or use the wheelchair ramp from the main parking lot. Inside the building, an elevator provides access to both levels of the building. New handicapped- accessible restrooms are available across from the elevator and in the new Family Life Center.
