Today is the first Sunday of Advent. Advent is more than the weeks that lead up to Christmas, more than the time to prepare us to more fully celebrate the birth of Jesus. It is those things, but it is also a time to remind us that we are in the midst of a bigger story. A story that tells us that God is in control and always working on behalf of the plan that is in place. Advent is a reminder that God’s timing isn’t our timing, but even as we wait Jesus invites us to know we are cared for and loved. Matthew 24:36-44 will help guide our hearts on this first Sunday of Advent.
