Pastor Eugene Peterson borrowed a phrase and it applied it to the discipleship of a Jesus follower. “A long obedience in the same direction” because a guiding force for Peterson that he invited others to pay attention to. Following Jesus is a patient pursuit, where we sometimes find our selves waiting on God and Jesus in turn is often waiting on us to finally open our hearts to what he has long been trying to get our attention about. As we grow in seeing God’s patience in our lives, we should let that impact our hearts and desire to be more patient in our dealings. As we continue in the Fruit of the Spirit series, we consider how Jesus is working to grow the fruit of patience in our discipleship. James 5:7-11 will help guide our hearts in worship today.
